IF YOU ARE SHOPPING AROUND be sure to ask other Funeral Plan providers these questions:
Is the plan provider a registered provider of the Funeral Planning Authority (FPA)?
We are a founding member of the Funeral Planning Authority and abide by their Code of Conduct which has been put in place to protect consumers. Shortly, funeral plans may become regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and we are confident that we already have the processes and safeguards in place to be FCA regulated too.
For how long has the plan provider been around?
Lodge Brothers have been conducting funerals since 1780 and our first funeral planning trust deed was set up in 1993. We have learnt a thing or two along the way!
Can I pay by instalments?
Yes. We offer 36 months interest free credit on all our Plans. What happens if you stop paying for your plan? We will offer either a full refund of the amount paid (less the £100 membership fee) or keep the amount in the trust fund to use as a deposit on the funeral. The choice is yours to make.
Can I cancel my Funeral Plan?
A full refund is available within 30 days of your initial payment. After this period, a full refund is available less the £100.00 membership fee.
How much of the money you pay for the plan will go into the trust fund to be invested?
We only take £100.00 (membership fee) from the amount you pay us. All the other funds are invested, ring-fenced and protected. This investment will grow and will be used to pay for the funeral at the time of need. Not all plans operate in this way – some providers take a bigger share of the funds, leaving, in some cases, less money for the funeral than was originally paid!
What is the membership fee?
This is the fee retained by us for the lifetime management of the Plan. The membership fee of £100.00 is included in the price of your Funeral Plan, as detailed on the price list.
Who are Family Funerals Trust Ltd?
Family Funerals Trust Ltd is a company owned by Lodge Brothers (Funerals) Ltd and is also the settlor to the Family Funerals Trust. It has been established to co-ordinate and administer funeral pre-planning and pre-payment on behalf of our network of Funeral Directors.
What is included in the cost? (sometimes more importantly – what is NOT included?)
Our Funeral Plans ensure that everything specified in your funeral plan will be covered and no additional fees will be charged at the time of the funeral. When shopping around make sure you ask other providers if the following are included: Doctors’ fees? Use of the Chapel of Rest? Removal of pacemakers etc? Are the disbursements guaranteed?
Does the plan provider know all the crematoriums and cemeteries in your local area, and their rules and regulations?
Can I personalise the Plan to my wishes?
One of our fully trained staff will ensure that all your personal wishes are written into your Plan. This can include favourite hymns or songs, donations to your designated charity, the route for the funeral procession and other wishes.
Which Funeral Director will be arranging the funeral and caring for your loved ones at time of need?
Make sure you are nominated a funeral director at the time of taking out your plan – they may not be as local as you think! Always check with the funeral director you are nominated that they are aware of your plan and have agreed to carry out your funeral.
In 2015 we took the decision to stop conducting funerals on behalf of other plan providers, for many reasons. The plans were badly written, heavily discounted and we often had to ask the families for additional funds – something that didn’t sit comfortably with us. Despite our best efforts, we know our brand is still incorrectly used by other plan providers to sell funeral plans in the areas we work in, don’t be fooled, we won’t be your funeral director if your plan is taken with a different provider.
